WINNIPEG -

Almost a year ago, standing on a rooftop patio in Tampa, Fla., Claude Noel stood in front of a group of reporters and sounded like a man without any answers for the frustrating inconsistency of the Winnipeg Jets.

It was then that I first started to believe he was not long for the role of head coach of a team that was simply not improving.

Truth be told, the Jets could have fired him that day, because absolutely nothing changed between then and Sunday when they finally did pull the trigger.

The Jets, in fact, regressed.
