WINNIPEG - The question should not be: Should the Jets move defenceman Dustin Byfuglien to forward?

The question should be: How can the Jets not afford to move to Byfuglien to forward?

If head coach Claude Noel is really serious about trying to cut down on the number of goals the Jets allow, then he will get Byfuglien out of the defensive zone and back to the position he once played for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Big No. 33 was wearing a forward jersey during Thursday’s practice at MTS Centre, although there were enough extenuating circumstances that it was impossible to know if the Jets are actually considering keeping him there. Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler were absent with the flu, while Noel said Evander Kane was dealing with a “maintenance issue.”

That meant the Jets had only 10 healthy forwards for the 90-minute session, so Byfuglien threw on a white jersey instead of the red ones the blueliners were wearing.
