WINNIPEG - Just look at the 13th overall picks, and then take a gander at those first overall selections.

Don’t tell me your mouth doesn’t water a bit, Jets fans, over the thought of your favourite team getting its hands on someone like a Sidney Crosby or an Alex Ovechkin or a Steven Stamkos.

Alex Semin and Ales Hemsky were pretty good finds at No. 13. Drew Stafford and Dustin Brown are solid players, with the latter helping guide the Kings to a Stanley Cup last year. Jiri Tlusty and Lars Eller are OK. Colten Tuebert and Marek Zagrapan — who? — have not panned out.

We bring all this up because Monday night is the NHL’s annual draft lottery, where the teams who didn’t make the playoffs get a chance to move up a few spots in the draft.
