There are six teams worse than the Winnipeg Jets in the Eastern Conference.

The Jets played five of those lowly squads in the last week a half and beat every one of them, producing their longest winning streak since arriving in Winnipeg nearly two years ago.

Not to take away from the team’s remarkable run of five straight victories, but they were five games they were supposed to win. On Saturday afternoon the Jets can prove that their recent winning ways can apply to a superior team in the standings.

The red-hot New York Islanders, who are three points ahead of the Jets in the Eastern Conference, will visit MTS Centre on Saturday afternoon in a game with plenty of playoff implications. If the Jets win and the Washington Capitals lose to Montreal on Saturday night, Winnipeg will be back in third place in the Eastern Conference when the sun comes up on Sunday.
