Over time, Ondrej Pavelec has learned about the importance of having a short memory.

The goalie of the Winnipeg Jets credits former teammate Mathieu Schneider with delivering the valuable lesson back when both players were members of the Atlanta Thrashers.

Pavelec had just been pulled from a start against the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2008-09 season when Schneider met him in the dressing room and offered up some simple, yet sage advice.

"He just told me, 'it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. Just forget about it right away. There's nothing you can do about it right now,'" said Pavelec, a 25-year-old from Kladno, Czech Republic. "It was great to hear from a guy who had been in the league for a long time. It's a process.

"It's the same thing with life, not just hockey."
