The NHL trade deadline is a simple thing for teams in simple positions.
If you’re a Stanley Cup contender like the Boston Bruins, in town to take on the Jets, Tuesday, you’re looking for the one player who could put you over the top, even if it costs a high draft pick.
If you’re the Florida Panthers, languishing at the bottom of the NHL East, you’re looking to sell off a high-end contract or two in exchange for a future payoff.
But if you’re in a more complicated position, like the Winnipeg Jets, straddling the playoff line like a first-time cowboy trying to hang onto his ride, the trade deadline is anything but simple.
Kind of like getting answers from Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. Some days it’d be easier to lasso a wild horse.
But in a conversation with the Winnipeg Sun, Monday, Cheveldayoff did provide a glimpse into what the Jets might do between now and April 3.
