The Winnipeg Jets have traded right-winger Spencer Machacek to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In return, the Jets got forward Tomas Kubalik, who is expected to report to the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps.

Kubalik, 22, has 20 points in 54 games for the AHL’s Springfield Falcons this season. He is a Czech Republic native and is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. According to reports out of Columbus, he requested a trade more than a month ago.

Machacek was at Jets training camp this year, but he didn’t make the team and has struggled with the IceCaps, recording 11 goals and 14 assists in 57 games. He was a whopping minus-23 as well.

The 24-year-old from Lethbridge, Alta., had a great end to the Jets season last year as a late callup, notching two goals and seven assists in 11 games, but he couldn’t parlay that into a regular role this season.

Kubalik, who is a right-winger, had one goal and three assists in 12 games for the Blue Jackets.
