It’s time for Kevin Cheveldayoff to throw on his salesman hat and get down to business.
The Winnipeg Jets have proven over the last year and a half that the rebuilding process must continue. Even if they’re close to squeaking into the playoffs, the Jets GM shouldn’t be tempted to buy at the trade deadline.
There’s no reason to believe the second half of the season, which starts Sunday in New Jersey against the Devils, won’t be more of the same. Win a couple here, lose a couple there. The Jets simply don’t have the horses right now to go deep into the playoffs, and there’s no point in mortgaging any part of the future thinking that could happen.
