SUNRISE, FLA. - Hockey has been therapeutic this week for an emotional Dustin Byfuglien.
Byfuglien still didn’t want to talk about the family matter which drew him away from the Winnipeg Jets on Monday and forced him to arrive in Sunrise, Fla., just 80 minutes before a game against the Florida Panthers.
“I just had a thing with the family,” he said. “I don’t want to talk about it, but I had to go home for a bit.”
Byfuglien was actually attending his grandfather’s funeral Monday, and said he was dealing with a lot of emotions.
“At first, I didn’t really know what to think or how I was going to react (when he got on the ice) but when it was time to go, it was time to play and once you get on the ice it was all hockey, all business.”
On Tuesday he had to deal with flight delays and cancellations and it took him a long time to get to South Florida.
