Derek Meech recalled, Al Montoya activated by Jets
By KEN WIEBE, QMI Agency

Detroit Red Wings defenceman Derek Meech brings the Stanley Cup home to the Dakota Community Club in Winnipeg in 2009. Meech is now a Jet.

NEW YORK - The Winnipeg Jets have recalled defenceman Derek Meech and activated goalie Al Montoya from the injured-reserve list.

On Wednesday, the Jets brought up Meech from the St. John's IceCaps, while returning defenceman Julian Melichiroi and goalie Eddie Pasquale to their American Hockey League farm team.

Neither Pasquale or Melchiori saw any game action during their first recall to the NHL.

The Jets (9-9-1) are back in action at MTS Centre on Thursday against the New Jersey Devils and are hoping to build on a successful road trip that saw them climb into a three-way tie for top spot in the Southeast Division.

Montoya accompanied the Jets on their road trip and is fully healed after suffering a lower-body injury in the second period against the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb.12.
