Ondrej Pavelec has never endured anything like the virus that prevented him from starting Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
The suspected flu bug hit him around 3 a.m. last thursday, waking him from his sleep following a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“I don’t think I’ve had it worse than that,” said Pavelec. “It surprised me a little bit because I had a flu shot a few weeks ago. I don’t know if it was from food or from something else. I’m happy it’s behind me and I can eat finally.”
WELLWOOD TURNS CORNER
Crafty winger Kyle Wellwood is coming off his best game of the season, picking up an assist in the Jets 1-0 win over the Senators.
It was just the second helper (and point) of the campaign for Wellwood, who is averaging only 12 minutes and 16 seconds of ice time per game.
“I thought Wellwood was creative, had the puck a fair bit,” said Jets head coach Claude Noel. “I think he wants to build off of that game.”
