Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec sidelined by flu

OTTAWA - It has gone from bad to worse for Ondrej Pavelec.

The Jets netminder hasn’t been playing at a level reflective of his new $19.5 million contract, and the fan base is starting to ask questions. Then on Friday he woke up with the flu that has been ravaging everyone and their dog in Manitoba for the last couple of months.

Pavelec still travelled on the Jets charter to Ottawa on Friday, but they probably stuck him in the back because they were trying to keep him away from his teammates. They put him in his hotel room and headed off to practice, using a local recruit as their other netminder opposite Al Montoya.

“He did not look good,” head coach Claude Noel said.

Considering Saturday’s game against Ottawa is a 2 p.m. local start, it looks like Montoya will be getting his second start for the Jets.

“We’ll wait and see, but that possibly could happen,” Noel said.

The Vancouver Canucks should replace ex-coach Alain Vigneault with...
  Guy Boucher.
  Lindy Ruff.
  Andy Murray.
  Jacques Martin.
  Brent Sutter.
  Don Hay.
  Other.
