Jets' Kyle Wellwood had big opportunity, little ice time
By KEN WIEBE, QMI Agency

Kyle Wellwood was the last player signed by the Jets during the off-season and he's first on the team in points after 20 games.

BOSTON -- Through no fault of his own, Kyle Wellwood drew the short straw on Monday.

As Winnipeg Jets head coach Claude Noel got out the blender in search of chemistry and shortened his bench to three lines, Wellwood was among the players who spent most of the third period on the bench in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.

Wellwood started the game with Evander Kane and Olli Jokinen, but had only three shifts for just over two minutes in the final period.

The crafty winger actually had a big opportunity to give the Jets a 2-0 lead just past the midway point of the first period, but his shot to the glove side was snared out of the air by Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask.

"Kyle was pretty good in the game, I didn't have a problem with him," said Noel. "It wasn't that I was unhappy with his play."
