WINNIPEG - We're about to find out if playing for a team sponsored by Red Bull will give Toby Enstrom wings.
At the very least, it should keep Enstrom's skating stride in game shape.
After spending some time training with Modo of the Swedish Elite League, Enstrom has inked a deal to suit up for EC Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian League, according to the team's official website.
It's a one-year deal that includes an NHL-out clause, should the lockout come to an end.
Enstrom could make his debut as early as Friday for the club that is coached by former NHL bench boss Pierre Page.
Enstrom, a mobile defenceman, signed a five-year contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets during the summer and is coming off a season in which he produced six goals and 27 assists for 33 points in 62 games.
In 380 games with the Jets and Atlanta Thrashers, Enstrom (an eighth round pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft) has 32 goals and 172 assists for 204 points.
Meanwhile, unrestricted free agent Eric Fehr signed with HPK of the SM League on Monday to suit up in Finland's top level of competition.
Fehr, a 27-year-old Winkler product, is coming off a disappointing and injury-plagued campaign with the Jets, in which he was limited to two goals and three points in 35 games.
The right-winger was the 18th overall pick of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has 48 goals and 96 points in 265 NHL games with the Jets and Washington Capitals.
Fehr also has an out clause in his contract that would allow him to sign with an NHL club should he draw interest.
