WINNIPEG - The armchair general managers within Jets Nation have spoken and they’re generally feeling pretty happy about Winnipeg’s first season back in the NHL.

But that doesn’t mean they didn’t have a few suggestions to pass along.

In the first annual You Be The Boss poll, more than 1,700 participants gave their views on the present and took a look at the future.

Naturally, the people who don’t sign the checks would like to see the Jets be more than a low-to-mid level salary cap team (67% say increase the payroll).

They’d also like to pursue New Jersey Devils winger Zach Parise should he become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Fans remain conflicted on what position Dustin Byfuglien should be playing (54% say defence, 46% say forward), while most of them agree he should lose 20 pounds before he reports to training camp.

Those who took the time to respond would like to get rid of Eric Fehr, Randy Jones, Ron Hainsey, Nik Antropov and Antti Miettinen and bring back Jim Slater, Tanner Glass, Chris Mason and Tim Stapleton.

They gave their unadulterated support general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, head coach Claude Noel and assistants Charlie Huddy and Pascal Vincent.

They still believe in 2011 NHL first-round draft pick Mark Scheifele, yet understand it was the right thing to send him back to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League and that there’s no guarantee he’ll make the roster this fall.

Here’s a closer look at some of the other answers that caught our eye:

n 56% thought the Jets were a team that made good strides from the one that played in Atlanta, 22% said it doesn’t matter, I’m just happy they’re in Winnipeg and 21% saw them as a team that stayed the same as the Thrashers. Just 1% thought the group took a step backward.

n Those most deserving of a raise include goalie Ondrej Pavelec (66%), Spencer Machacek (38%), Blake Wheeler (34%) and Kyle Wellwood (32%).

n When it comes to the contract negotiations for pending restricted free agents, 79% of fans think Pavelec will be paid more than $3.5 million and 64% feel Evander Kane will eclipse $3 million per season.

n In terms of playing time, after watching Pavelec appear in a career-high 68 games this season, most (71%) would like to see him play fewer than 65 next season. However, 97% believe Pavelec should be the No. 1 goalie.

n Fans believe that Wheeler (93%) and Kane (61%) are first-line players, but Bryan Little (37%) and Andrew Ladd (34%) might not be.

n 81% of fans think Ladd should remain as captain.

n More than 20% of fans believe slick centre Alex Burmistrov could benefit from a stint with the St. John’s IceCaps.

n Although the return won’t be realized until the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, a whopping 93% of folks thought it was a good move to send defenceman (and pending unrestricted free agent) Johnny Oduya to the Chicago Blackhawks at the NHL trade deadline.
