The Winnipeg Jets are officially popular.

More than 490,000 viewers watched some or all of Tuesday night's preseason opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets on TSN Jets. The average audience during the game, which the Jets won 6-1, was 148,000 viewers.

"This is an incredible debut for a new television service,” TSN president Stewart Johnston said in a press release. “I can’t ever remember this type of excitement for a preseason game. We are looking forward to building on this momentum throughout the season.”

The channel is available in approximately 500,000 homes in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and parts of northwestern Ontario.
