A public funeral will be held for Winnipeg Jets forward Rick Rypien on Saturday in Blairmore, Alta., the Lethbridge Herald reported.

Rypien, who in July signed a one-year contract with the Jets, died on Monday in Coleman, Alta. RCMP said the 27-year-old’s death was sudden but not suspicious.

A public service will be held at Albert Stella Memorial Arena in Blairmore.

It begins at noon and is expected to be attended by many in the notable figures from the hockey world.

Rypien, who had been battling depression for a decade, appeared in 116 games for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose between 2005 and this year.

He also suited up for 119 games for the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks during that time.

After benching Brad Richards should the New York Rangers eventually just buy him out?
  Yes.
  Might be a good idea.
  No.
  Not sure.
