The Washington Capitals have signed center Jeff Halpern to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but multiple sources, including the Washington Post, report it is worth $825,000.

Halpern played 438 games for the Capitals from 1999-2006, but has bounced around with Dallas, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Montreal the past five seasons.

In 72 games for the Canadiens last year, he scored 11 goals and added 15 assists for 26 points while finishing second on the team in faceoff percentage.

The 35-year-old native of DC's Maryland suburbs has 142 goals and 200 assists for 342 points in 792 NHL games since breaking into the league with Washington in 1999. He captained the Capitals during the 2005-06 season.
