WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals signed right wing Alexander Semin to a one-year contract extension on Thursday.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed, per club policy, but various reports indicate the deal is worth $6.7 million.

The 26-year-old Russian native has registered 18 goals and 35 points in 39 contests this season after coming off a 2009-10 campaign when he notched his first 40-goal season and set a career-best with 84 points.

Semin, who was taken with the 13th overall pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by Washington, has tallied 166 goals and 169 assists over his six NHL seasons with the Capitals.
