Washington Capitals goaltender Jose Theodore and his wife Stephanie Cloutier are in mourning after their two-month-old son died last Friday.

The cause of death remains unknown. The news was confirmed by Theodore's sister-in-law Veronique Cloutier on a Montreal radio broadcast on Thursday.

"We are aware of the heartbreaking news," Washington Capitals GM George McPhee said in a statement. "At this time we ask that everyone respects the privacy of Jose and his family."

The Capitals goaltender also has a three-year-old daughter. She had some respiratory problems at birth, but is doing fine now.
