Ovechkin will play Leafs
Star injured foot during practice

WASHINGTON -- Perhaps the thought of padding his stats against new Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Gerber was simply too delicious to ignore.

Whatever the case, Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin plans to be in the lineup tonight when his team hosts Gerber and the Maple Leafs at the Verizon Center.

Before his teammates took to the ice for their morning skate today at the team's practice facility in Arlington, Va., Ovechkin briefly skated on his own in order to test out his right foot, which was nailed by a shot from assistant coach Dean Evason during practice yesterday.

Ovechkin was in considerable pain at the time of the injury and hobbled to the dressing room after his skate was removed.

When asked about Ovechkin's condition this morning, coach Bruce Boudreau replied: "He's fine."

That's not the news Gerber or the Leafs were hoping to hear.

Do you think Coyotes players should be punished for their actions after the team’s Game 5 loss to the Kings?
