The Vancouver Canucks are ready to make John Tortorella their next head coach.

The team has called a press conference for Tuesday to fill their coaching vacancy after they fired Alain Vigneault a month ago.

Tortorella was in Vancouver over the weekend, reportedly hammering out contract details after the Canucks offered him the job.

The 55-year-old was fired by the New York Rangers on May 29, just four days after the team was eliminated from the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Boston Bruins in five games.

Tortorella guided the Tampa Bay Lightning to their first and only Stanley Cup championship in 2004, defeating the Calgary Flames in seven games.

During his NHL coaching career, Tortorella is 410-330-67 along with 37 ties.

Now that coach John Tortorella has been fired by the New York Rangers, post-game press conferences will never be the same in the Big Apple.

Tortorella stormed into New York in early 2009, taking the place of Tom Renney. From the get-go, “Torts-speak” regularly found its way into print and nightly sportscasts.

With Tortorella as their coach, the Rangers posted the second most wins all-time in a single season, with 51 during the 2011-12 season. They lost in the conference finals.

New York was ousted in the second round of the NHL playoffs this year by the Boston Bruins.

During his tenure, Torts was known for his fiery exchanges with reporters, particularly Larry Brooks from the New York Post. After learning of his firing, Brooks tweeted, “Any media outlet that would hire John Tortorella should be ashamed.”

Here are some of his best rants, included his exchanges with Brooks.

Linesman to Tortorella: 'That's enough! F--- you!'

During Game 4 against the Bruins, microphones captured part of a what appeared to be a heated exchange between the Rangers coach and a linesman.

"That’s enough! F--- you! ... You had your say,” the linesman, who is not seen on camera, is heard yelling at Tortorella.

“What do you need to do as the coach?”

Uncomfortable silence

Tortorella was a big fan of dismissing reporters’ with a curt, “Next question,” reply. That prompted one user to create a remix. No word on whether this is available on iTunes.

When Avery learned of Tortorella’s firing, he tweeted, “Don't ever doubt what i say :)”

“Are you being a wise ass?”

In firing Tortorella, Rangers general manager Glen Sather said, “Every coach has a shelf life. I’ve told every guy that I’ve hired that at some point in time it’s going to change.

”Our goal is to win the Stanley Cup. And we didn’t achieve that goal this year and I had to make the decision and I did.”

For a man who was so cantankerous and confrontational, Tortorella was reportedly shocked that he was being fired. One thing is for certain, he probably doesn’t have a post-coaching career as a motivational speaker.

“I asked you to f---ing defend”
