Luongo would prefer trade to Panthers
But Canucks goaltender 'not shutting the door on other possibilities'

Goalie Roberto Luongo, who has been on the trading block since the spring, would prefer to be dealt back to the Florida Panthers.

"(A trade to the Panthers) makes sense for myself, for my career and my family," Luongo told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"That being said (there are) obvious other options as well. This is a preferred location for obvious reasons, but I'm not shutting the door on other possibilities ..."

Luongo, 33, spent five seasons with the Panthers starting in 2000-01 and still has an off-season home in south Florida. He has spent the past six seasons with the Vancouver Canucks but has become expendable because of the emergence of former understudy Cory Schneider.

One potential obstacle to a trade is Luongo's contract, which has 10 more years to run with an annual cap hit of $5.33 million.

After benching Brad Richards should the New York Rangers eventually just buy him out?
  Yes.
  Might be a good idea.
  No.
  Not sure.
