Kesler has shoulder surgery
By QMI Agency
Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler will likely miss the first month of the 2012-13 season after having surgery for a second consecutive year.
Kesler had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder and will need six months to recover, according to the Canucks. That timeline means he's likely out until November.
Kesler said after the season that he hurt the shoulder in January and it was clearly affecting him down the stretch (no goals in his last 17 games) and in the playoffs, when Vancouver was bounced in the first round by the Los Angeles Kings.
"After consultation with our team physicians following the playoffs, it was deemed that Ryan would require a procedure on his shoulder," Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said in a statement. "We expect a full recovery and determined this procedure would best serve the team's and Ryan's long-term goals."
Last year Kesler had hip surgery and missed training camp and the start of the regular season.
