Injured centre Manny Malhotra will not return to the lineup this season, the Vancouver Canucks announced Monday.

After consulting with doctors, the Canucks decided to shut down Malhotra, who was hit in the left eye by a puck last week during a game against the Colorado Avalanche and immediately had surgery.

Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault has described the damage to Malhotra's eye as "severe." Malhotra had 11 goals and 19 assists in 72 games with the Canucks and was among the league leaders in faceoff win percentage when he was hurt.

The Canucks called up centre Alex Bolduc from Winnipeg of the AHL Monday.

Bolduc has played 19 games with the Canucks this season, recording one goal and two assists.
