NHL suspends RypienCanuck left ice, attacked fan
By Sports Network
Toronto - Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien has been suspended, pending a hearing, after getting involved in an altercation with a fan during Tuesday's loss in Minnesota.
The NHL announced the suspension Wednesday, saying the league will have no further comment until the matter is resolved.
The incident happened at 13:38 of the second period, when he was issued a double-minor for roughing and a game misconduct penalty.
As he was leaving the bench for the dressing room, he grabbed a fan by the shirt and shook him. The fan was clapping and cheering Rypien's imminent departure directly in front of Rypien but did not make contact with Rypien, nor did the fan reach beyond the security gate. The fan was removed from the area.
