The Canucks defenceman will not be playing or practicing with the team until at least Sunday.

The Shane O'Brien drama is not dying down.

While the Canucks defenceman did not speak with media Tuesday, coach Alain Vigneault added a bit more insight into the punishment for O'Brien's tardiness to Monday's practice.

"Obviously there's more to this than just yesterday's incident," said Vigneault. "He will not be practicing with the team and be with the team until Sunday, and his situation there will be re-evaluated, barring there's no injuries to any of the players."

O'Brien will also miss Tuesday night's game against the Phoenix Coyotes, as Andrew Alberts slots in the blueline alongside Christian Ehrhoff.

"It's not a suspension," said Vigneault. "We've got a plan and a special program."

O'Brien was also reportedly on the ice by himself prior to the Canucks optional game day skate Tuesday.

He has two goals, eight points, and is a plus-16 in 63 games this season.

Do you think Coyotes players should be punished for their actions after the team’s Game 5 loss to the Kings?
