Vancouver's first move during trade deadline day Wednesday was for minor league depth.

The Canucks acquired Slovakian Yan Stastny, son of Peter Stastny, from the St. Louis Blues for prospect Pierre-Cedric Labrie.

Stastny has 10 goals and 27 points in 49 games with the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL this season, while playing four games with the NHL Blues, scoring one goal.

In 91 career NHL games, Stastny has six goals and 16 points in 91 games.

He was drafted in 2002 by the Boston Bruins, going 259th overall.

The Canucks also traded veteran holdout defenceman Mathieu Schenider to the Phoenix Coyotes for an undetermined draft pick.

The blueliner was playing for the Manitoba Moose.
