The Vancouver Canucks officially assigned Mathieu Schneider to the Manitoba Moose yesterday.
The 40-year-old veteran of 1,281 NHL games was scheduled to arrive in Winnipeg late last night and will take part in team building exercises at MTS Centre today.
Schneider fell out of favour with the parent club in Vancouver, which placed him on waivers last week. He was assigned to the Moose after no other NHL team claimed him.
The New York City native appeared in 17 games with the Canucks this season, registering two goals and three assists. He won the Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993, and he was an Olympian for the U.S. in 1998 and 2006.
