It's time to rock 'em and sock 'em

When you look down the roster, it's fairly obvious that this year's Canuck squad was built for puck control.

Trouble is, when perenial puck magnets like Dan Sedin, Pavol Demitra, Kyle Wellwood and Sami Salo are out of the lineup for different stretches at a time it makes it virtually impossible to make an accurate assessment of how the new offensive philosophy is faring.

What can be assessed accurately is something that has been a bone of contention with me since the first contest with the Flames, and that's toughness. Life is far too easy for the opposition right now physically, especially in front of the Canucks net.

I know players and coaches won't come out and say it but when injuries reach epidemic proportions like they have here in Vancouver, it is a legitimate excuse. There will be nights where you will lose big. What can't be excused is allowing Anaheim to score seven unanswered goals and do absolutely nothing to knock a Duck on his arse.

Please tell me this team's not waiting for Daniel, Pavol and Roberto Luongo to get back in the lineup before they start smacking the opposition in the mouth. Right now, the Willie Mitchell hit on the Hawks' Jonathan Toews is just a one-hit wonder. It's the Canucks that are getting pasted on a regular basis.

After two periods on Sunday night the Avs had out hit the Canucks on GM Place ice 21-7. Whatever happened to "Not in our house?"

As much as it pains me to say it, this team could be doing with a serious infusion of some Burke-like pugnacity, truculence and belligerence.
