Lost in all the headlines on the recent injuries in Canuckville is the story of Willie Mitchell's one-man campaign to bring the city of Vancouver its first-ever Norris trophy.

With the heart of a lion and the giant novelty stick from the Duncan Community Center, the normally stay-at-home defenceman has clearly been given the green light to make his assault on Adrian Aucoin's club record of 23 goals by a blueliner.

I know what you must be thinking. Willie Mitchell leading your blueline in goals is like the punter leading his football team in touchdowns. It's not supposed to happen.

Well, call Ripley's and get over it because it's happening right now under our nose.

Once upon a time the two most unsettling words to come out of a play-by-play mans mouth was "Mitchell pinches".

Now those words send an anticipatory shiver down my spine like I just found out I was the ninth caller through to win REO Speedwagon tickets.

Mitchell for the Norris. The campaign starts now.

- EXTRA FRAME: For the record, there is absolutely no truth to the rumours that Sami Salo plans to switch jerseys with Tanner Glass.
