The much-discussed top-six spot left vacant by Pavol Demitra's injury is on Mason Raymond's radar, but the Canucks forward says he's focused on making the club first.

"I'm here to earn a spot like everybody else," said Raymond yesterday prior to last night's preseason game against the Calgary Flames. "I'm happy to play wherever I can, but yeah, you strive to do the best you can, and sure, in the back of your mind you think of getting up to that top six position at some point."

After playing his first full season last year with Vancouver, the speedster is looking to build on his 23 points in 72 games.

Raymond spent most of last season on the bottom two lines but the 24-year-old Calgary native will once again be battling for a roster spot, with only four preseason games left.

And that means he'll have to be consistent all season long if he wants playing time.

"I've got be good night in and night out and be relied on," he said. "There's pressure to perform every night."

Meanwhile, the recap of Vancouver's exhibition game at GM Place yesterday is available on www.vancouver.24hrs.ca.
