Russian coming?

There is an open audition currently underway for injured Canuck Pavol Demitra's right wing spot alongside second-line centre Ryan Kesler.

The job posting reads: "Wanted: Speedy right winger for part-time job. Could possibly turn into a full-time position for the right candidate".

This gig has the new stealthier and motivated Steve Bernier written all over it. But wait, the posting continues... "The applicant must also possess great hands while demonstrating a strong ability to finish around the net". Oh snap!

Does this mean long-shot Russian rookie Sergei Shirokov, who also happens to play the right wing and would make just $875,000 on a team struggling to get under the cap, actually has a shot at a top-six roster spot?

Look, it was one game and it was played in a rink in northern B.C. slightly bigger than my basement air hockey table. The Canucks can go ahead and delete the Craigslist ad because the job will go to Bernier. That said, memo to all Canuck right wingers... Hang on to your gigs as tight as you possibly can because there's a certain 23-year-old Russian in town that definitely has a nose for the 'nyet'.
