Jannik Hansen will have to prove himself in order to collect the bigger pay cheque next season.

Having signed a one-year two-way contract yesterday, the 23-year-old winger will make $550,000 if he stays in NHL.

If not, he'll be sent down to Vancouver's farm team, the Manitoba Moose, .

Hansen recorded six goals and 21 points in 55 games last season with the Canucks.

Despite the signing, the club's new President Mike Gillis still has a busy offseason ahead of him.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo's contract extension is a top priority, considering the team captain will become an unrestricted free agent next summer if not re-signed.

Luongo will make $7.5 million this upcoming season and will most likely look for a pay raise.

Head coach Alain Vigneault and the rest of the coaching staff will also be looking for an extension.

Gillis stated during the post-season press conference that he intends to have both deals done prior to the 2009-2010 season.
