The Vancouver Canucks play tonight against the L.A. Kings (7 p.m. Team 1040/Sportsnet). The Canucks have 96 points like Calgary, but they'll need a win and hope for the Flames to flop in order to win the Northwest and third seed in the Western conference.

The Canucks are 43-37 (including 10 tiebreaker losses) and should ride the wave of their 4-1 win over the Flames on Tuesday. Or, more correctly, Roberto Luongo's 46-save win.

Kings fans, once spoiled by the presence of Wayne Gretzky, are going into the sixth straight spring with no playoffs.

A pre-game ceremony begins at 6:55 p.m. to hand out six individual player awards. If there is justice, Alex Burrows will have a trophy for each hand.

The Canucks end the schedule Saturday at noon in Denver against Colorado.

The team is about to test the recessionary waters by testing your wallet and loyalty to the blue and green. Tickets for their first two playoff games go on sale Saturday morning via Ticketmaster. The cheapest ticket is $105, $50 more than the lowest regular season seat.
