Relax, Mats

- FREE BOOS

This Saturday's Hockey Night in Canada is must-see TV for both Canuck and Leaf fans.

Of course, Canuck fans will be tuning in to watch Mats Sundin stick it to his former team. Leaf fans, meanwhile, will be spitting venom due to the fact that Sundin would not waive his no-trade clause at last season's deadline, denying the Leafs the opportunity to get a decent prospect in return.

Some much closer to the scene made the comments that Mats was sticking it to the organization, which never made the effort to get him top-calibre help while he wore the blue and white.

Either way, when No. 13 gets the puck for the first time Saturday night, the ACC will rain down a chorus of boos. No worries, Mats, it just means they've forgotten how to cheer.

- WELL, WOULD YA?

I'm not sure how busy GM Mike Gillis will be come the trade deadline but I am getting the feeling Kyle Wellwood's days as a Canuck are numbered. I really liked his soft hands early on in the season, but the trouble is he is not the type of player you go to war with down the stretch where every game has that playoff feel.

There is very little room on the ice during this time of season so you need to clear room for yourself using your grit and/or speed. Unfortunately, Kyle lacks both.

- POINT MAN

Alexander Edler's game has rocketed from poor to outstanding in a matter of weeks. No surprise that having Ohlund as his new defensive partner has allowed the sophomore to shake off the jinx and explore the other side of the rink a bit more, and the numbers don't lie. In his last five games, he has two goals and five assists, proving beyond a doubt that he is one of the biggest reasons this team has seen its fortunes reversed.
