New Canucks logo?

The fate of a one-dimensional whale is the talk of the town during the dog days of summer.

Vancouver Canucks' fans await a new logo and uniforms after general manager Dave Nonis failed to solve the club's goalscoring deficiency on the free-agent market.

It's a convenient time to repackage. All National Hockey League teams will dress in high-tech Reebok Edge uniforms this fall. Francesco Aquilini wants to put his stamp on the team and pay bills after his costly buyout of John McCaw legally closed in June.

Canucks' identity crisis is legendary in North American pro sports. No other franchise has so radically changed logos and colour schemes. Fans love the original green, blue and white stick-in-rink, but many forget the team wore the Halloween-coloured downhill skate twice to the Stanley Cup finals. The decade of the navy, burgundy and silver birthing Orca was a bust with only one playoff series win; Canucks beat Dallas Stars in April's first-round Game 7 while wearing retro jerseys.
