It's Big D versus Olympic city when the Dallas Stars meet the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 1994.

The Canucks eliminated Dallas 4-1 in the Western conference semifinal 13 years ago. They begin their 2007 Western conference quarterfinal series tomorrow at 7 p.m. in General Motors Place.

Third-place Vancouver and sixth-place Dallas meet again Friday at 6 p.m. before the series shifts to Dallas for games on Sunday (5:30 p.m.) and Tuesday, April 17 (5 p.m.). If necessary, Game 5 would be April 19 in Vancouver, Game 6 on April 21 in Dallas and Game 7 back in GM Place April 23. All games are on Team 1040, CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, RDS and Versus.

The teams split their four regular season meetings, which all ended 2-1. The Canucks got lucky with a home shootout win Jan. 3 after Dallas outshot Vancouver 40-21. The Canucks let Dallas score power-play markers to tie in the final minute of regulation and win during the last minutes of overtime Feb. 25 in Dallas.

The Canucks were 49-33 through the season, including seven tiebreaker losses. The Stars were 50-32 (7). Dallas scored four more and allowed four fewer goals than Vancouver.

The Canucks clinched third place by virtue of winning the Northwest division, when they beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in overtime Saturday after twice relinquishing leads.

The Canucks didn't appreciate ticket holders or pay-per-view buyers enough to wrap it up at home during Thursday's Fan Appreciation Night. It turned into Milan Hejduk night when he scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 Colorado Avalanche win.

Vancouver also lost its meaningless regular season finale 3-1 on Sunday to the 29th place Phoenix Coyotes in Arizona.
