The Desert Dogs are the Vancouver Canucks’ best friend.

Canucks scored five goals for the second time this season to beat the visiting Phoenix Coyotes 5-2 last night. It was the ninth time Phoenix allowed five or more goals. Brendan Morrison, Kevin Bieksa, Jan Bulis, Mattias Ohlund and Ryan Kesler scored before Oleg Saprykin spoiled Roberto Luongo’s shutout bid in the second period.

Ex-Canuck Ed Jovanovski assisted ex- Canuck Dave Scatchard’s goal with 38 seconds left in the game.

Curtis Joseph replaced Mikael Tellqvist in the second but Tellqvist reappeared in the third.

Minnesota Twins’ Justin Morneau, the New Westminster- born American League most valuable player, dropped the ceremonial face-off. Canucks host the Calgary Flames tomorrow night.
