Czech centre Jan Bulis was the Vancouver Canucks' latest free agent signing Monday.

The former Montreal Canadien inked a one-year deal and appears likely to be Anson Carter's successor with Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

The 28-year-old native of Pardubice, Czech Republic played 73 games last season with 20 goals and 20 assists. Bulis won a bronze medal with the Czechs in the Torino Winter Olympics. He was drafted 10 years ago by the Washington Capitals 43rd overall.

Carter scored a career-high 33 goals last season to lead the Canucks. He is credited with spurring the Sedin twins to their best NHL season. However, he remains unsigned. Canucks' general manager Dave Nonis said the Canucks couldn't afford the $3 million a year Carter wants. NHL teams operate under a $44 million salary cap.
