For a good part of Wednesday's NHL trade deadline, it was looking like the best swap was going to be Jimmy Fallon for Jay Leno.

Or, as one Twitter wit replied: "I thought this said Falloon for Leino."

The way things are going in Buffalo for the Sabres, they might have gladly taken Pat Falloon for Ville Leino Wednesday.

Things picked up as the deadline neared and the last hour saw a rally that pushed the number of deals past last year's total.

In the end, the deadline, as is sometimes the case, was more interesting for the players who didn't get traded as the ones who did.

The goalie situation across the league provided some of the best story lines of the day, which was kind of like an NBA game -- you only had to tune in for the last few minutes to see what mattered.
