TORONTO - Dave Nonis said the free-agent forwards he’s signed to date might not be household names “but they’re trying to establish themselves”.

Definitely count Mike Santorelli among that group. Crowding age 30 with his best NHL days supposedly behind him, he tore up the Vancouver Canucks training camp last year. Unfortunately, he also tore up his labrum in the middle of his great season, halting him at 28 points in 49 games.

“I’ve been doing lots of workouts in the gym and on the ice and I’ll be ready for camp,” Santorelli said Thursday in a phone interview. “My shoulder feels much better.”

Santorelli can play right wing or centre and excelled in the latter on a line with Chris Higgins and Ryan Kesler with Vancouver.
