TORONTO - With a handle like Dakota Joshua and a kit bag with Sioux Falls Stampede emblazoned upon it, you’d expect this Maple Leaf pick to have ridden a horse to prospect camp in dusty cowboy duds.

“My mom came up with ‘Dakota’, though she’s never got around to telling me (the name’s origin),” laughed Joshua during Day 2 at the MasterCard Centre. “I took some heat for it from the Toronto fans (on Twitter), but I made the top 10 list of best last names from the draft.”

Not many will have heard of the still-growing 6-foot-2 centre, who took a back seat to more seasoned juniors with the United States Hockey League’s Stampede. The Dearborn, Mich., resident has one more year of eligibility there before accepting a place on Ohio State’s team in 2015-16.
