TORONTO - In the span of less than two hours on Tuesday, The Toronto Snub Club — a.k.a. Josh Gorges and Dave Bolland — kneed the Maple Leafs organization right in its blue-and-white athletic cup.

Here was Gorges, a fan and media favourite in Montreal, still refusing a trade to the Maple Leafs and ending up 90 minutes down the QEW in Buffalo with a Sabres team that was the worst in the NHL last season.

That’s better than Toronto?

And here was Bolland, a Mimico kid who had the opportunity to return for a second season with his hometown team, an organization that is now being run by Brendan Shanahan, one of his childhood heroes.

Obviously, Shanahan’s attempts to woo him back to the Leafs fell short. So was Toronto’s offer. So he signed a five-year, $27.5 million US deal with Florida, where he’ll be reunited with GM Dale Tallon, the man who first drafted him in Chicago.
