With an 82-game season and 29 arenas to visit at least once, even Randy Carlyle couldn't draw up the perfect schedule for his team.

But you can say this about the 2014-15 calendar that the NHL released on Sunday: The Maple Leafs coach won't have an excuse if his team gets off to a slow start.

An early season heavy with home games also features a leisurely transition from the tedious exhibition schedule to the regular season.

From there, the Leafs will play 22 of their first 33 games at the Air Canada Centre (and four of their first five), including the season opener on Oct. 8 vs. their traditional opening-night rival Montreal Canadiens.
