The gloves are coming off and as he did throughout his hall of fame playing career, Brendan Shanahan sounds like a man getting ready to mix it up.

Just a month into the job as Maple Leafs president, the Mimico native is quickly coming up to speed with the state of his hometown franchise. And it’s clear that Shanahan isn’t in love with everything he sees and will demand change and accountability as the team looks to rebound from the car crash of a collapse in March and April.

“How a lot of our players respond this summer and react coming back will play a role in what their role is with the future of this team,” Shanahan said on Wednesday when he dropped by the Toronto Sun offices to meet with our team of Leafs reporters and columnists.
