At one point during Brendan Shanahan’s press conference Monday, the new head honcho of the Toronto Maple Leafs leaned over to general manager Dave Nonis and whispered in his ear.

One can only guess what the conversation entailed.

Maybe something like:

a) Is your desk cleaned out yet?

b) Grab me a double double — pronto!

c) Your buddy Brian Burke just called — he has an office waiting for you in Calgary.

d) What’s your name again?

Ok, we know none of those things were said. But that didn’t stop social media from blowing up with sarcastic suggestions such as the ones above.

Truth be told, Leafs Nation has been sold such a bill of goods over and over and over again in the past decade, you can understand why there is skepticism regarding the new Nonis-Shanahan marriage, one that many already are predicting will end in an unavoidable divorce sooner rather than later.
