The many playoff pessimists on Main St. say the Boston Bruins will devour the Maple Leafs on Thursday night, nudging them further to the brink of elimination, while fattening up for a Presidents’ Trophy ceremony.

The low-profile Bay St. optimist — whose odds improved by 3.9% after Tuesday’s win over the Calgary Flames according to one website — would look at the Boston game as a first-round preview.

Give the decided edge to the nattering nabobs of negativism at this stage, no matter if Boston had to play and travel on Wednesday night after its game in Detroit. Boston had points in 16 straight games before Wednesday, trumping any lingering Leafs satisfaction from mid-January when they won 4-3 in overtime at TD Garden and exorcised some Game 7 demons.
