Are big changes coming for Maple Leafs?

Is Tim Leiweke’s next move to blow up the Maple Leafs, both in terms of roster and in the front office?

Last spring’s Game 7 collapse in Boston, followed by this season’s horrific eight-game losing skid, certainly must have the suits at MLSE contemplating what’s next, especially with the success being enjoyed by the NBA Raptors and the splash Toronto FC has made with big-name signings like Jermaine Defoe.

Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis, who was signed to an extension last year, is someone who preaches patience.

But will those above him do the same if this team misses the playoffs, earning them the title of the Meltdown Maple Leafs?

Joffrey Lupul, Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel are all signed to long-term contracts. Maybe coach Randy Carlyle will be the scapegoat, but keep in mind he is the same bench boss who led this team to its first playoff appearance in nine years last spring.
