DETROIT - No, James Reimer doesn't have a voodoo doll with the likeness of Jonathan Bernier stuffed into his luggage.
Reimer isn’t unlike many of those in Leafs Nation who are worried with the thought of Bernier being out of the Maple Leafs’ lineup for an extended period of time.
“Bernie has been playing really well,” Reimer said on Monday following the Leafs’ practice at Joe Louis Arena. “And hopefully he gets back quick and is back helping this team.”
Getting an opportunity to start — Reimer will be in goal when the Leafs face the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, giving him consecutive starts for the first time since Dec. 17-21, when he got the call in three games in a row — because of an injury to Bernier didn’t have Reimer keeping his fingers crossed.
“Not like this, not from a teammate’s injury,” Reimer said. “You take an opportunity any way it will come, but definitely not this way.”
